Morning... just after the sun had risen and brightened the sky to a 
brilliant blue. There were a few small clouds in the sky, out in the
distance, and the grass of the middle green was dappled with their
shadows.

A bright and beautiful morning. 

And on that morning, Sierra waited, astride Mercury, her Shedu, for
the signal to run. 

Mercury, too, was waiting, panting slightly from the excitement; he
knew he was about to run. He wanted to run.... he had to run. 

Waiting... 

Waiting...

Waiting...

And there was the signal. Merc was off like a shot, with Sierra 
clinging to him tighter than a flea. Faster and faster he ran,
the surroundings blurred in Sierra's eyes... all but the track
right in front of Merc's nose was distorted by sheer speed. 

So Sierra gave Merc his head, and let him take the track
on his own... 

And on they sped....
