Ultimate Deer Antler Guide - WIP by TalonV Ultimate Deer Antler Guide - WIP by TalonV
Oh. My. Goodness.

This took FOREVER! And it doesn't look all that great either...oh well. Maybe one day I'll ink it and add some text that's actually readable. ^^;

Anyhoo, every little section has, I believe, (from my point of view) a right-view antler, and the same type antler viewed from the front.

And, if you can't read my writing, we have, from the top row down -

Row 1 - Sika Deer, Sambar Deer, Eld's Deer, Chital/Axis Deer, Elk, Red Deer

Row 2 - Caribou, White-tailed Deer, Mule Deer, Fallow Deer, Thorold's Deer, the Barasingha

Row 3 - Pere David's Deer, Persian Fallow Deer, Hog Deer, Sunda Sambar Deer, Moose, European Roe

Row 4 - Bawean Deer, Taruca/North Andean Deer, Indian Muntjac, Pampas Deer, Marsh Deer, Philippine Sambar Deer

Row 5 - Visayan Spotted/Philippine Spotted Deer, Siberian Roe Deer, the extinct Irish Elk, one of the Brocket species, and the Chilean Huemul or South Andean Deer

I was inspired to do this by :iconkutkumegsan:'s North American Antlers - Antler Tutorial Glyph < [link] > Thank you, ~KutkuMegsan!

This is awesome! Being a deer fanatic, I am disappointed to say that I've never heard of a Thorold's deer, bawean deer, North and South Andean deer, or the Phillipine Spotted deer. :( Well thanks for drawing all of the different species of deer antlers. Now I know that there are more species of deer that I should look into. Great work! Heart thumbs up emote

Thank you!

I have to say, I didn't know about them either before I started this... I found a list of a known deep species, and I decided to draw the antlers of eack one that was different enough to merit it (a few were so similar that there wasn't really a point to putting them on here ^^).

I'm so very glad you liked this!

This has saved me a lot of time! My original species, the zeldonqua, can have antlers or horns like any other species of animals. I'm therefore looking for as many different horn/antler refs as I can so that I can add them to a MS Paint friendly lineart I'm making. XD

I'm so glad my little (okay, not so little) doodle could help! I don't know how many hours I spent looking up deer photos. XD I might... miiiight... have to do another for goat and cattle horns... like those watusi cattle. Whew.... big horns on those fellas. XD

Oh! I can't wait to see the lineart when your done! :la:

XD Indeed. Saves a lot of time looking for those particular deer. XD I spent a lot of time looking for the animals I listed in the journal you saw, and you see how many got added to it since then. XD lolz One thing's for sure, that lineart is going to take a LOT of time to complete and it will be rather large when all the drag and drop heads with different horns and antlers are added. XD

That's what I was hoping for - helping someone and keeping them from having to research for hours finding what they need. Some of those... were almost impossible to find photos of, and even harder to find both the front view and the side view. XD

Ah... yeah... wow, it would be huge. Heh.... now I really can't wait to see it. It will be the biggest horn/antler group ever on DA. Maybe you could make a separate sheet just of the labeled horns and antlers for people like me who would love to be able to look at something so awesome. X3

XD Well, when I'm finally done the linearts, yes linearts plural because the male and female zeldonqua will be getting seperate linearts, there should be a nice huge collection of horns and antlers from the side and the 3/4ths view as I'm creating the lineart from the example zeldonqua on the species sheet. XD And once I have that done I might take the time to put just the horns and antlers on a sheet by themselves. X3 We'll see how I feel about doing all that work when the time comes. XD Just making the two linearts will be a huge order. XD
