Huge dark wings cut through the air like they were a pair of scalding knives slicing through soft butter, soundless as they carried Essie and those aboard her back though the night sky. And all the while, her sharp eyes locked onto the terrain below, scanning the ground for anything out of the ordinary... and her muzzle sniffed in the wind, trying to catch any sign of where the Stranger might have gone. The faintest scent drove her onwards, but... there was little else to track. An overturned leaf here... a dislodged bit of gravel there.... a cat's trail would have left more to go upon than what had been left by the Stranger.
