There was silence across the white hills; the extraordinarily bright moon cast an eerie light across all. Not a sound
broke the majestic expanse....

"Hike, Hike!!"

A whoop breaks the stillness, followed by a snarl... which may well have been a word in another language... all muffled
by the sounds of huge padded paws shredding the newly fallen snow.

A great brown shape then leaps over a rise, and over to the right, another golden shape, coat glistening in the light
of the moon, surges forward. Behind each a figure clung to a line from their tokota's harness. The one on the left, long white
hair trailing back gives a shout as his skis leave the powder.

Ah, now this was living! Freedom in every sense of the word! Mae's green eyes squinted against the brilliance of the
reflective snow, and his thin eyebrows turned down as the gilded tokota, handled by one called an Outsider, began
to pull ahead. Ha! No way one of those Prestige Breeder sissies are going to outmatch his.... well, Wren's... wild Belka.

"On by, Belle, on by!" He cried, crouching down low to offer the wind less resistance. Hearing the drow's call, the one she'd
been waiting for, Belka gave a bark and laid her ears back. He had given her the signal, now it was time to go all out.

Her paws dug into the loose snow, and her stride lengthened. Teeth bared, she shot forward.....

The golden rival would not be out in front for long....
